Program Funding and Partnerships

Grants and Donations

Funding for the Trekker Breeze program has been made possible by grants and donations from the following foundations and trusts.

The Mallory Foundation

The Mallory Foundation was founded by Jean Mallory, the daughter of Marion and Louise Mallory who founded Mallory Electric Corporation. Jean Mallory was a philanthropist who loved animals and enjoyed helping people. She made her home in Carson City, Nevada but also had a vacation home in northern Michigan where she loved to garden and spend time with her pets. Miss Mallory died at the age of 78 in 2002 but the Mallory Foundation continues impacting the lives of thousands of people each year through charitable giving to six organizations including Leader Dogs for the Blind.

Philip and Elizabeth Filmer Memorial Charitable Trust

The Philip and Elizabeth Filmer Charitable Trust was established upon the death of Elizabeth Filmer after she passed away at the age of 101 in May, 2005. Her husband, Philip Filmer, had predeceased her many years before, as had their only child, a son who died at age 13. The Filmer Foundation provides grants to enrich the lives of Oakland County residents and has assisted with Leader Dog programs consistent with their love of animals and concern for their care. The Filmers made their home in Pleasant Ridge, and enjoyed watching the variety of birds which flocked to their yard for the treats Elizabeth would leave for them each day.

Humanware and Leader Dog Partnership

Combining Humanware’s industry leading technologies and our innovative thinking, our two organizations have formed a unique partnership that has resulted in the development of the Breeze GPS unit, an easy-to-use device that is revolutionizing dog guide training as we know it.
